Work from the exhibition

Inaugurated Sunday, May 27 and organized by the non-profit association AMO Onlus ― Amici del Museo di Olevano Romano, the exhibition entitled “Carta in Gioco” (Paper Play) is on view at Villa De Pisa and will be open to the public until September 2, 2012.

This collective brings together the work of 22 international artists and the common thread of the project is the desire to highlight the diversified potential of working with paper. In fact, the word “paper” brings together a world that is immense and fascinating because of its origins and the importance in time and geographical space it has acquired in figurative arts and literature. It is perhaps the key material that has marked the history of man and his creativity. From a medium of support, and also thanks to the contribution made by this exhibition, paper has entered the world of thought and feeling, not just in a visually, but also in a tactile and globally sensorial way.
Paper can become an object, structure or rediscovered space for new expressive forms, a constituent and no longer subordinate material of the work. Each artist was free to explore the theme and decide the final form, following his or her own personal inclinations and also verifying the extent to which his/her work constitutes a work in-progress that is open to new ideas and surprises.

It is the intent of the association to have this be the first of an annual cycle of events. AMO onlus, founded in 1989, is dedicated to promoting artistic expression, both through safeguarding artistic heritage as well as the parallel activity of encouraging contemporary creative activity. The 20th century Villa de Pisa is the home of both these aspects, preserving a tradition which, starting in the 18th century, made the small town of Olevano Romano the preferred home of a large number of European artists, whose stay there left its mark in the creation of the European Landscape Painting Collection of the museum, the Museo Centro Studi.

The exhibition is sponsored by the President’s Office of the Lazio Regional Council and by the Town of Olevano Romano.
