“Ciambella degli Sposi” Festival

 Officially recognized in July 2011 as a traditional product of the Lazio Region by ARSIAL (Lazio regional agency for agricultural development and innovation), this year this specialty will be the protagonist of an all-new event:  the “Festa della Ciambella degli Sposi”.

 
The event was organized by the town’s tourist board, the Pro Loco Città di Rocca di Papa in honor of this traditional sweet that is closely tied to weddings because, on the basis of local tradition, the ciambella is given to wedding guests – how many depends on the level of kinship with the bridal pair – as part of the wedding favors.
 
Festivities will begin at 5 pm on Saturday, June 23 with the opening of the stands selling ciambelle and street performers and musicians. Sunday, June 24 the day’s program will start at 11 am with a guided tour of the murals. Starting at 11:15 am, the brides will parade through the old town center together with the "Club Auto storiche di Rocca di Papa" in vintage cars. At 5 pm, brides in their wedding dresses will stroll through the old town center as part of “100 spose per 100 vicoli” (100 brides in 100 alleys).
 
Throughout the streets will also be an exhibition of photographs of recent newlyweds as well as those from earlier years, and among the outdoor stands will be restaurants, travel agencies, dressmakers, tailor shops and other activities all closely tied to making a wedding truly perfect.
