About 300 artists will bring to life “TolfArte ’012”, the eighth International Festival of Street Art taking place in Tolfa August 3-5. A very popular art event that over the years has become one of Lazio’s main cultural events in terms of the artists presented and number of attendees, which in 2011 numbered 30,000.
The Comunità Giovanile di Tolfa, the Tolfa youth association that created the event, has been active for weeks in organizing this year's festival, down to the last artistic and logistic detail. As every year, TolfArte ’012 will kick off with a preview of the event on Friday, August 3, when the amphitheater in the Villa Comunale will host the Arte Live Project, a foretaste of the festival with 20 artists performing.
But Saturday and Sunday, August 4 and 5, are the heart and soul of the festival when, from 6 pm late into the night, 300 street artists of all types (jugglers, acrobats, musicians, tumblers, improv poets, clowns, living statues, fire-eaters, DJs, VJs, street theater and dance troupes) will delight visitors along the charming streets and alleyways of the old town center, in eight squares and in every corner of the town. Providing the background will be dozens of arts and crafts stands: a winning combination that in just a few years has made Tolfa one of the main summer festivals in central Italy. And, along the streets decorated using recycled materials, visitors will have the opportunity to try traditional dishes from the Tolfa area and visit artisan leather and pottery workshops.
Special guest this year will be Ascanio Celestini who will close the festival Sunday August 5 at 10:30 pm with his “Discorsi alla Nazione” – his personal look at the state of the nation.
