The Museum, housed in the Doria Pamphilj Palace (late XVII century), offers a detailed presentation of the archaeological sites that have come to light in the territory after the construction of the new high-speed railway track.
The strengths of the exhibition are the models of the area of Valmontone and the thermal baths of Colle Pelliccione, the diorama that reconstructs the coal-mining production cycle in antiquity, the reproduction of the tile kilns, in 1:8 scale, can be completely dismantled and, above all, the 5 multimedia consoles at different points in the rooms; these illustrate, with the aid of 3D reconstructions and interactive tours, the archaeological sites and all the connected general themes, to allow a comprehensive understanding of them (the thermal baths in antiquity, coal production, the communications in the Alta Valle Latina, the production of bricks in the Roman world etc).
The sarcophagus decorated with scenes of lions biting ibexes, dating from III century A.D., the fragments of a bronze and leather breastplate of the “fanciulla di Valmontone” (maiden of Valmontone), the grave goods from Colle dei Lepri, and the virtual reconstruction of the imposing thermal bath complex and the mansio in Colle Pellicione are some of the most prestigious exhibits in the museum.
