The baronial palace was built by the Colonna family around 1050 on the ruins of a temple to the Goddess of Fortune.
The construction was severely damaged during the reigns of Popes Boniface VIII and Eugene IV.
The Barberini family, who became owners of the palace at the start of the 20th century, carried out substantial remodelling and decorations.
A part of the palace still belongs to the Barberini family, while the remainder was bought by the State which used it to house the prestigious National Prenestine Museum.
The two floor building has simple, severe lines and a staircase at the base.
