As part of celebrations surrounding the beatification of Pope John Paul II, the Terra Sognata Tour agency is offering the following itineraries:
1st itinerary
APRIL 30, 2011/ ARRIVAL IN ROME
Arrival in Rome and transfer by private coach to Castelnuovo di Porto (North Rome)

MAY 1, 2011/ BEATIFICATION OF JOHN PAUL II
Transfer by private coach to Rome, take the metro A line to reach St. Peter’s Square and participate in the beatification ceremony for Pope John Paul II.

 
MAY 2, 2011 / FARFA ABBEY AND VEIO

Day trip by private coach to visit Farfa and Veio.
In the heart of the ancient Sabina land, at the foothills of Mount Acuziano, the historic abbey of Farfa lies in an atmosphere of mystic silence in the characteristic old town. This place steeped in peace and spirituality and is run by Benedictine monks.
This will be followed by a guided tour in the Veio archaeological park, encompassing an ancient city that was at its peak in the 6th century BC and which controlled a huge territory in the Val Tiberina area.

MAY 3, 2011/ THE ROMAN HILLTOP TOWNS: CASTEL GANDOLFO, GROTTAFERRATA AND ARICCIA

Day trip by private coach to visit some of the most famous examples of the hilltop towns around Rome, such as Castel Gandolfo, the historic residence of the Popes, dominated by the Papal Palace and the Church of St Thomas of Villanova, by Bernini; Grottaferrata, with the Abbey of St Nilus, an oriental oasis close to Rome, still run by monks celebrating the Greek Catholic rite; Ariccia, a pretty holiday town, especially well known for its excellent wine and tasty local cooking! Here, the long Bridge, Chigi Palace and the Church of the Assumption by Bernini are examples of art and architecture that are renowned the world over.

MAY 2, 2011 / THE ABBEYS OF MONTECASSINO, CASAMARI AND TRISULTI
Day trip by private coach to the Frusinate monasteries: the visit includes some of the most beautiful monastic buildings in the province of Frosinone, close to Rome, a land filled with art and history to be enjoyed to the full. The tour starts at Montecassino, before heading to Trisulti and then Casamari, and will give visitors a chance to soak up the atmosphere of monastic life, which is still today marked by the slow rhythm of ancient times, driven by constant prayer and work.

MAY 3, 2011 / SUBIACO AND THE MENTORELLA MONASTERY AT CAPRANICA PRENESTINA
Day trip by private coach to Subiaco and the sanctuary of Mentorella in Capranica.
Subiaco is one of the most important places of spirituality in central Italy, with the ancient monasteries of St Benedict and Santa Scolastica, actually founded by the saint, who choose this place to start his way of monastic life.
St. Benedict is also linked to the Sanctuary of our Mother of the Graces, known as Mentorella, where he lived for two years. The sanctuary is located in unique surroundings, perched on a sheer rock face leading to the Giovenzano Valley, and was founded by Emperor Constantine, and then run by the Benedictine monks from Subiaco. Pope John Paul II made one of his very first official visits here, making a pilgrimage to the sanctuary of  Mariano, a place he often frequented before being elected Pope.
