In the year 1012 the Castle at Vivaro Romano was a fief of the Santa Maria in Farfa Abbey. In 1440 it became a property of the Orsini family who built a new and sturdier castle that for five hundred years defied the assaults of many an army.
In 1609 Pope Paul V Borghese bought it for his nephew Marco Antonio.
The castle can be viewed - by appointment only - by calling the Vivaro Romano Council.
