The castle, a rare example of fortified farmhouse, is situated on the ancient Via Aurelia at 35km from Rome in the heart of the Etruscan-Roman archeological area of Monteroni.
It was built in the 14th century, perhaps on the site of existing structures. In the 15th century it belonged to the Basilica of St. Peter and to the Marquis of Riano in the 16th.
The central body of the farmhouse, expanded and restructured various times, is fortified with four battlemented corner towers.
The structure was a way station, hotel and restaurant, for centuries, until it was entrusted to tenant farmers and renters. During WWII, it was occupied by families evacuated from Ladispoli.
