The Cathedral of St. Clement is the most important religious symbol of the city and of the suburbicarian diocese of Velletri- Segni. It dates back to the 5th century.
It was built on the structure of a public building of the Roman Municipality and survived in this way until the end of 1200 when the underground Chapel dedicated to St. Eleutherius and a new apse, based on the Roman apses of St. Mary Major and St. John in Lateran, were added.
The Cathedral contains Our Lady of Graces and relics of the martyr saints Eleutherius and Pontianus. For this reason, it is also known as the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Graces.
