Sixteen museums in the territory of the Castelli Romani hilltop towns around Rome and the Prenestini area will be welcoming visitors for the 2nd edition of the “MUSEUM GRAND TOUR IN FESTA” . The 2011 Museum Grand Tour is part of the Museum System’s participation in the 13th edition of Culture Week.(Celebrating the Museum Grand Tour), taking place on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 April, 2011. There is a wide ranging programme of exhibitions, concerts, conferences, shows and educational workshops, all offered for free.
Events include the inauguration of the exhibition "Passato-Presente: Dialoghi d’Abruzzo” at CIAC in Genazzano, where some of the most important works in the Abruzzo National Museum will be compared with a similar number of works by contemporary artists from the public collections in the Abruzzo region. There is a guided tour of the “treasures” of Palestrina, ending up at the Church of St. Stephen, where, for the first time, people can admire the paintings discovered from the late medieval period; or there is the trail in the footsteps of the powerful Borghese family through the old town of Monte Porzio Catone, which is even more suggestive at this time of year thanks to the displays of orchids from around the world. Important women from Neolithic times to the present day who have been worshiped in the territory will be the focus of the guided tour entitled “Divinità, Madonne e Donne” (“Goddesses, Madonna’s and Women”), put on by the Roman Ships Museum in Nemi. The programme also includes events for children, including educational workshops, concerts and conferences.
The celebrations are being promoted by the territorial Museum System Museum Grand Tour, led by the Mountain Communities of the Castelli Romani and Prenestini, and involves the collaboration of the city administrations and the cultural associations operating in the territory.
