The ducal palace of Ariccia is a unique example of a Baroque residence that has remained untouched in its original setting with its original furnishing.
The original medieval castle, belonging to the Savelli family, served as the basis for the new, grandiose Chigi Palace, built to a design by Gian Lorenzo Bernini between 1664 and 1672.
The lovely dining room, with 19th century frescoes, is particularly beautiful and can be admired in the 1962 film “The Leopard”.
The immense park, ringed with a high wall, is mostly thick wood, with centuries old trees.
The palace remained property of the Chigi family until 1998 when it was donated to the municipality of Ariccia.
Now restored, the Palace is a museum and also the centre for cultural activities such as exhibitions, concerts and conventions. Recently, the Museum of Roman Baroque was moved here.
Palazzo Chigi is one of the sites of great artistic and cultural value included in the “ABC – Art, Beauty and Culture – places to live in the Province of Rome” project.
