The Church of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven is situated in Piazza Duomo in Rocca di Papa. The cornerstone was laid on 3 May 1664. Two years later, however, Cardinal Girolamo Colonna died and his successor showed no interest in continuing the building of the church for the village. With the death of the architect, Antonio Del Grande, work only started again in 1731.
Inside, the church has a mirror vault and six chapels, with several notable works of art: a 14th century Madonna by the school of Siena in the baptistery; a painting of the Redeemer attributed to Perin del Vaga or Marcello Venusti; a Madonna della Pietà by Pietro Labruzzi ( 1739-1805); St. Charles Borromeo by Domenico Tojetti; a sculpture composition of the Pietà by Theodor Wilhelm Achtermann (1799-1884) and the Assumption of the Virgin by Corrado Giaquinto (1703-1766).
The parish archive holds fragments of 15th century documents referring to the Confraternity of the Holy Sacrament.
