The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption stands almost in the centre of the first inhabited area of Arcinazzo and its building dates, therefore, to the Middle Ages. It is mentioned for the first time in 1327. A second mention, in 1468, indicates a 'cell' near the Church of Our Lady. This is a reference to a small chapel that existed alongside the bell tower at that time, very close to where the chapel with the painting of St. George is today. It is known that the original building of the Church of Our Lady had Gothic arches, like many other churches in the area, especially the Church of Our Lady in Affile and the 2nd century Monastery of St. Scholastica.
