The building of the neoclassical-style church with its oratory dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption began in 1860. The initiative was put forward by Pope Pius IX himself who had already contributed to the birth of the new country by sending three hundred gold scudi from his private house “to the beloved sons of Camerata, so sorely tried".
The church was designed with a single nave, two side chapels and a “round vault” ceiling. It was restored in 1946 and other parts were also modified at the same time. The church contains two fine works of art: a wooden statue depicting St. Anthony by an unknown artist, which comes from the old church of Vecchia Camerata, and a statue from1600, by an artist from the Abruzzi depicting Our Lady of Mercy. The high altar is dominated by a painting of the Sienese School dedicated to the Assumption of Our Lady.
