Built in 1789, the Church of St. Andrew Apostle in Subiaco was designed by the architect Pietro Camporese and his sons and commissioned by Cardinal Giovanni Angelo Braschi, at the time Commendatory Abbot of Subiaco. Later, as Pope Pius VI, he came to consecrate it personally, on 22 May 1789.
The interior features a nave and two aisles on a Latin cross plan, with altars in polychromatic marble from Trajan's villa at Arcinazzo, a Saviour from the workshop of Raphael and works by Nocchi, Cavallucci and Guido Reni.
To the right of main altar is a painting of the Madonna by Sebastiano Conca, whose eyes are said to have miraculously moved four times in the past.
The present configuration of the church is due to reconstruction work carried out to repair the severe damage following damage carried out to repair the severe damage sustained during WWII.
