The Church of St. Anthimus, which sits on top of a hill outside the central area of Nazzano, was built before the 10th century, according to various sources.
Repairs were carried out on St. Anthimus between the 12th and 13th centuries by Roman workers; the characteristic elements of Romanic architecture date back to this period.
There are 15th century frescoes in the apse entitled The coronation of the Virgin and The Virgin with Child between two angels and saints Paul, Peter, Andrew and Anthimus attributed to Antoniazzo Romano .
St. Anthimus is the patron saint of Nazzano. His feast day is held from 10 to 12 May and the festivities include a procession which bears the saint and his standard from the church outside the walls to the town. Another solemn procession, at the end of October, brings the patron saint back to the Basilica dedicated to him.
To complement the religious ritual, the local Tourist Office organizes a wide range of entertainment for all ages from flag waving to comedy shows, theatre and live concerts.
