The small Church of St. Blaise in San Gregorio da Sassola has a simple gabled roof with a single entrance, framed by a grey stone arched portal and surmounted by a rectangular niche which includes a window and a small fresco of The Liberation of Souls from Purgatory, sadly damaged and almost invisible.
Inside, the simple space has a small altar on the back wall, which leads to another small room, the Sacresty.
The church is situated in the oldest area of the town, known as 'quella da piedi'. Tradition recounts that it was the first parish church and was founded by the inhabitants of Colle Faustiniano who were devotees of St. Blaise when they moved to San Gregorio towards the end of the 13th century.
An oil painting on canvas of Our Lady of Graces, by an unknown 19th century painter, is particularly important to devotees as the source of a miraculous event that took place on 22 July 1915 when many of the faithful saw The Lady move her eyes. The church then became a shrine for pilgrims from surrounding villages and the centre of intense religious fervour.
