Church of St. John the Baptist - Sacrofano

The Church of St. John the Baptist in Sacrofano was built in the 12th century and restored in the 15th. The sandstone block bell tower dates to the 14th century and presents two layers of mullioned windows with a central column and brickwork cornicing with marble shelves.
Inside, the church has a central nave and an irregular floor plan. Looking at the ceiling, there is an canvas oil painting, glued onto wood, of St. John the Baptist and St. Blaise which dates to 16th/17th century. The floor features a 18th century mosaic which includes the crest of Cardinal Gasparri.
The altar, in coloured marble, was consecrated in 1515.
The vault of the apse is decorated with a fresco of the Assumption, by the late 16th century Roman school.
