Church of St. Liberata - Ciciliano

Browse fullscreen [x]

The Church of St. Liberata in Ciciliano was built in the 15th century and enlarged in the 17th century.
Towards the end of 19th century a small choir with external staircase was built in the church along with two rooms, one for the Sacresty and the other for the church guardian. Around the same time, town council granted use of the church and its outbuildings to the Maronite fathers who still care for them devotedly today.
Of note, the church contains an altarpiece in plaster which dates to the 18th century and was probably produced by a Roman workshop. On a black background, there is a central monochrome tondo depicting the Martyrdom of St. Lawrence. On the sides are spirals and colourful bunches of flowers and leaves on which two birds are perched.
