Following its consecration by Pope Eugene III in the mid 12th Century, the Church of St. Michael at Sant'Angelo Romano was often used for funeral rites and as a burial ground.
In 1867, it was occupied by members of Garibaldi's army who used it as a dormitory for six days.
The church contains an oil painting and a statue of the Archangel Michael, patron saint of the town.
