The parish Church of St. Nicholas of Bari, dedicated to the patron saint of Ponzano Romano, is situated on the small Piazza di San Nicolò in the centre of the town.
The church's foundation date is unknown, although it surely predates the first historical mention of the building in a notary's act of 1494. The bell tower, at the right corner of the façade, which dates to the late 13th - early 14th century, could provide a clue.
In its present form, with 18th century architectural lines, the church appears to be the result of different remodelling projects that took place over time.
Several precious objects from the Abbey of St. Andrew in Flumine have been placed in the church for safekeeping: a silver reliquary by Rainerius Teramnese, dated – controversially – to between the 11th and 13th centuries and a tryptych of The Most Holy Saviour of the Graces, which is more certainly dated to the 16th century.
