The Collegiate Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, managed by an archiprete and the college of canons which give it the name, is the treasure of the town of Valmontone.
Built on the remains of a 12th century Gothic church, the Baroque structure has an elliptical plan and a facade framed with twin bell towers.
The splendid, and recently restored, 17th century paintings inside include: the Holy Crucifix by G. Brandi, Our Lady of the Rosary by Mattia Preti; St. Francis of Assisi by P. Pozzi; Our Lady of the Assumption in Heaven by L. Gramiccia. The main altarpiece holds a Nativity by Bassano Da Ponte; St. Nicholas of Lucatelli; the Annunciation by C. Ferri; St. John the Baptist by Carloni and the Baptism of Jesus by S. Lista.
Also worth note are the throne designed by Engineer Busiri; the statue of the town patron St. Louis Gonzaga; the baptismal font by the main altar and the Canons' Choir, restored with 17 stalls.
