To the north, on a tufa rock hill, stands the Colonna Castle, majestically overlooking the town of Genazzano. In Renaissance times it was converted into the family’s personal residence, thanks to the renovation works carried out by Filippo Colonna.
The archaeological remains were used as building material for the Castle, which remained in the hands of the family until very recently.
Now an International Centre for Contemporary Art, its spaces have been renovated once more to house prestigious exhibitions.
Currently the castle is connected to the nearby tufa rock by means of a bridge that spans the roads below. A public park has been created in this area with huge oak trees and the remains of an ancient aqueduct.
From this rise one enjoys an extensive view of the valley and in the distance one can make out the Lepini Mountain range.
At the foot of the town one can also visit Bramante’s nymphaeum.
