Built on the slopes of Mount Foresta in October 1629 and commissioned by Cardinal Scipione Borghese, the Convent of Our Lady of Jesus is one the main churches of Artena. The complex combines a convent, reserved to Franciscan monks, and a church, both designed by Sorìa.
The church has five altars. The main altarpiece represents the Sacred Name of Jesus, the Holy Virgin and St. Anne and is probably by Manenti, to whom paintings on the other altars are also attributed, such as the ones of St. Anthony Abbot with St. Anthony of Padua and St. Clare with St. Elizabeth of Portugal. Behind the main altar is the choir, in walnut, the sacresty and a painting of the crucifix by Father Bernardo of Dijon. This is the only church in Artena to have an organ with pipes.
The convent was the site for two schools, theological for monks and philosophy for secular students. There is a large library, founded by the theologian and philosopher Father Gerolamo da Montefortino. The cloister is very picturesque, with seven arches on each side and niches decorated with 1640 paintings. There is a large cistern in the centre of an ornamental garden.
