The Convent of St. Angelus of the Conventual Franciscans in Valmontone was founded in or near the year 1000 by Benedictine monks, although the present building is the result of the total renovation that took place after WWII when the convent was completely destroyed.
Parts of walls dating to the first Benedictine monastery can be seen in the Refectory and the Cloister. In the cloister are a stationary cross and a Via Crucis in part dating to 1607/8, bells from 1523 and 1744 and frescoes of the life and miracles of St. Francis from 1600 by an unknown painter.
The ruins of an ancient temple were uncovered during WWII next to the convent buildings.
