The distinctive characteristic of the Archaeological Museum of Segni is the close links it has with scientific research and with the town itself.
The Council Archaeological Museum of Segni is housed in the thirteenth-century Palazzo della Comunità (Community Building) that looks out onto the main piazza of the town. The exhibitive itinerary is arranged on two levels, covering more than 400 sqm, and it accompanies visitors on a trip through the ancient and medieval urbanism and topography of the city and its territory.
The exhibition has a strong didactic imprint. Every section is equipped with panels that, through brief texts and many detailed illustrations, explain the themes as they are broached.
The main body of the exhibit, focusing on the ancient town, is in the great central hall on the upper floor.
From here, it passes to the territory itself. There is a section devoted to the products that characterised the ancient town, not only agricultural ones like its famous wine, but also manufactured ones, like the making of ceramics, shown by the waste products from the kilns and from stamps on tiles that tell us the owners of the factories came from the most important families of the period.
Finally, the Museum of Segni is not only exhibitive spaces. A multiuse room houses the scientific and didactic workshops: in the latter there are the widest variety of activities, from lessons, workshops and conferences to ceramics, mosaic, restoration courses etc., organized for schools on specific days as well as the general public in cycles of appointments.
