The Toy Museum was first opened in March of 2005 and is located in the 16th C. Rospigliosi Palace, where its premises cover approximately 1400 square metres.
The museum contains around 800 pieces which provide a thorough cross-section of the toys to be found in Italy during the course of the last century, through objects of great historical and aesthetic value produced in both Europe and America. They come from a number of historic collections which have been acquired over time.
The exhibition is divided into theme areas, a choice that hinged on the demo-anthropological approach used and which is meant to highlight the relationship between the toys and objects of daily use, between play and real life. The large exhibition space, divided into 14 rooms, is entirely given over to the presentation of games and toys and how they evolved over the course of the century, with particular attention being paid to the connection between the toy and the social and cultural context in which they appeared.
Another three rooms are given over to temporary exhibitions with specific themes and one to teaching activities. Every room has its own specific theme, which is described on information panels and through a series of didactic plaques which provide the necessary teaching aids for the visitors.
