Built in a strategic position on a rocky spur at the dawn of the Middle Ages, the present castle is the result of the many structural changes applied over the centuries and particularly by Count Niccolò III Orsini in the 15th century and Marco Ottoboni, Duke of Fiano, in the late 17th century.
The rectangular 15th century wing built by Niccolò III holds nine rooms.
The 17th century wing has been notably remodelled in recent times and only three rooms, overlooking Piazza Matteotti, still have their beautiful stone fireplaces and pannelled ceilings.
Recent restoration work has refreshed the priceless pink granite fireplace with the Piccolomini family crest.
