Etruscan Necropolis of Sorbo and S. Paolo – Cerveteri
Very little remains of the Sorbo necropolis, now almost entirely buried under modern buildings.
A few “dice” shaped tombs have remained and the famous Regolini-Galassi tomb.
Still visible in Cerveteri, it was discovered intact in 1836.
It is partially cut out of the tufa rock and partially built with square blocks: a huge mound of earth had then been made to cover the entire structure, thus gracing it with a monumental appearance even from the outside.
The excavation, in addition to the objects contained in the tomb, also brought to light a wealth of grave goods, including a chariot, silver, gilded silver and bronze vases, a series of very precious golden objects that must have belonged to the deceased woman.
