The Convent of the Capuchin Friars Minor of Riano was built in the second half of the 16th century when the Cesi family bought the castle with all the surrounding land and decided to create a convent for the Capuchin monks, probably on the ruins of an ancient structure.
Tradition recounts that St. Francis spent his last stop here on the way to Rome from Assisi, an event that the Capuchin brothers wanted to commemorate.
Today, that area on the hill is occupied by the Cittadella Ecumenica Taddeide, an oasis of peace and a place of prayer.
The building is composed of two parts: one reserved for the use of the religious community, the other is a welcoming ecumenical Spirituality Centre, used for conventions, seminars and encounters. It is also used for pilgrims visiting Rome.
