This is the fourth successive year for Framma Day, the emotional cultural event created in the memory of Angelo Frammartino (an Italian peace activist killed in Jerusalem in 2006) and to promote the Foundation created in his name and its activities in the Monterotondo area. The multicultural project encompasses many disciplines, from music to theatre, cinema to the visual arts, debates, conferences and workshops. It is building on its past experience to offer new initiatives and ideas aimed at involving a larger section of the general public and raising awareness about the issues covered by the work of the “Angelo Frammartino” no-profit Foundation.
Since 2008 there has been an annual event in April/May (round about the time of Angelo’s birthday, on April 28), around Rome and especially Monterotondo (RM). Many important guests have participated in this opportunity to share ideals over the years, including Niccolò Fabi, Remo Remotti, I sei ottavi, Minim’Art, Otiskuri, Assalti Frontali, Regina Olsen, Radici nel Cemento, Pharm and Nobraino.
This year there will be a Framma Wave, an evening concert at the end of the event featuring the ethno-musical group from the Salento area, Alla Bua, offering a chance to indulge in some pizzica dancing, and Adriano Bono’s Reggae Circus, a concert ‘invaded’ by circus performers. The music starts with a DJ set from Mr. Benny (On my Radio) and a group of young peace activists, mixing themed musical sounds.
Afternoon activities are specially for youngsters, with entertainment, games, artistic and circus events. From 14.00 there will be a tournament of Street Basket, an open lesson of Artistic Gymnastic Displays for the Circus, screenings of short films made by the Officine Culturali Perturbazioni from the Lazio Region and the live auditions for Monterocktondo.
These activities are put on in collaboration with local entities: Robba de Strada cultural association, the Centro Ginnastica Monterotondo, the no-profit Cooperativa Sociale Folias, while the whole event is being organised by a group of young volunteers who have spent months planning and working behind the scenes to put on an event of this calibre.
The Foundation’s aims are to open up to make this day an initiative that belongs to everyone, both as a day of remembrance and commitment but also a celebration that brings people together for a time to share and participate.
The 2011 edition of Framma Day takes place at the Parco Arcobaleno in Monterotondo (Rm) and will also include artistic-cultural activities, a craft market, food stalls and the opportunity to obtain information about local Associations/Cooperatives. Takings will be collected for the fundraising initiative entitled “Non Uno di Meno”, organised by the Foundation, to support Monterotondo pupils of compulsory school age with learning difficulties.
