The Gregorian Bridge at Tivoli

A single arched bridge spanning 20 metres, the Gregorian Bridge in Tivoli was built in place of the ancient waterfall, following the disastrous flood of the river Aniene (1826) and was opened by Pope Gregorius XVI on the 24th of May 1835.

It was destroyed in 1944 by the retreating German Troops and rebuilt shortly after.
Water has recently been allowed to flow beneath it once more, thus recalling the ancient image of the waterfall that can be enjoyed both from the Rivarola Square, or even better from the Castrovetere district opposite (Mole Square).

From the same bridge one can also admire the wonderful setting of the Roman acropolis with the two temples to Vesta and the Sibyl.
