The G.E.Cerite branch of the Associazione Scuola Italiana Escursionismo AZIMUTH (Azimuth Italian Hiking School Association) offers hikes to the most interesting sites in the Cerite area to promote respect for the environment and historical/archeological knowledge of the zone.
The next tour is scheduled for Saturday, April 21: Guided tour to the Anello del Fosso Magniaferro
The hike will leave from the Casale Pietrische – a point of interest for film lovers. Isolated, reddish in color, perched on a plateau and surrounded by a characteristic “ranch-style” fence, this farmhouse, also known as the “Casaccia” (sometimes totally re-sided in wood to give it an even more “western” appearance), can be seen in the 1965 movie, Un Dollaro Bucato (with the young Giuliano Gemma under the stage name of Montgomery Wood) in the scene with G. Gemma tied to the fence, as well as the 1967 movie Preparati la bara in the fire scene. -
The itinerary will then proceed to see the Magniaferro gully and then up the hillside to the crest of the Ceraselle up to Mount Acqua Tosta, where you will be rewarded with an exceptional panorama across the entire area, from Tolfa to Canale Monterano and from the Cerite mountains to the sea. From there, the itinerary continues along the Magniaferro where you can admire its most hidden and fascinating aspects: the river's long paths, its white rocks and majestic trees reflected in the large, filled pools. Then it’s back up the valley of the bed of the Lenta River and back to the farmhouse.
The Tolfa Hills offer a number of special characteristics, from the variety of their rocks and minerals to perpetual springs which are the source of the rivers and gullies and the dense Mediterranean vegetation near which farming is impossible due to the low productivity of the land.
Difficulty: Challenging – 19 km
Meeting point: 8:45 am at the Il Pozzo Bar in Cerenova
