From the plains at the gates of Rome, the Inviolata Park spans over a series of gentle hills leading to the higher peaks of the Cornicolani Hills and the Tivoli Mountains. This area is safeguarded by an institute preserving this important part of the Roman countryside, valued for the archaeological remains uncovered here.
One of the most well known artefacts brought to light thanks to farm excavations is the so-called “Capitoline Triad” (Triade Capitolina), a bas-relief that hit the headlines when it was recovered after being stolen.
Here the large olive groves, some with trees that are notable for their shape and size, form part of a vegetation that is typical in an arable area, with species of agronomic interest and thick hedges lining the fields, which attract a large number of perching birds (Passeriformes) as well as hooded crows.
