Landriana Gardens - Ardea

Browse fullscreen [x]

The Gardens of Landriana extend over 10 hectares inside a vast estate on the Lazio coast, at Tor San Lorenzo near Ardea, 35 km. south of Rome.

The distinctive thing about the garden is that it is divided into “rooms”, each of which has its own specific botanic characteristic which makes it unique, such as for example the valley of ancient roses by the lake, the orange garden, the white avenue, the olive garden, the blue lawn, the Spanish pool and many others to be discovered during an extremely pleasant guided tour.
The garden was first established in 1956 when the Marquis Gallarati Scotti and his wife, Lavinia Taverna, decided to purchase the rural property near Adria. At the time of purchase the land was completely barren. Lavinia began to get involved in gardening with great enthusiasm, dedicating herself to the seeding and lovingly growing hundreds of plant with her careful and painstaking efforts.
This amateurishly enthusiastic stage lasted for a few years, until Lavinia realised that hers was not a garden, but a multitude of plants without any structure or a specific design. Lavinia needed someone to help her create a real garden. She called on Russell Page, the famous English landscape architect.
Now, Landriana is an incentive and a precious source of inspiration for anyone who is keen to approach gardening, either with a poetic and thoughtful attitude, or a more down to earth and scientific one.
