On August 12 at Riofreddo it is traditional to go on an excursion on foot to the Cross on Monte Pischiusu (900 meters a.s.l.).
In January 1961, a number of boy scouts from Rome made excursions up Monte Pischiusu and erected a modest chapel to the Virgin Mary. An inhabitant of Riofreddo noticed the chapel, and decided to have a cross erected near to it.
For many years now, on the morning of August 12, the people of Riofreddo have set off on foot to the cross and the “Madonnella” of Pischiusu. The priest celebrates mass and the committee offers all those taking part a souvenir gift and a plentiful breakfast of bread and omelet.
