Massimo Castle - Arsoli

Browse fullscreen [x]

The Castle in Arsoli was built in the 10th century as a fortified convent for the Benedictine monks of Subiaco.
It is a classic example of a fortified convent transformed into summer residence with hunting grounds and was later embellished with a Neo Renaissance Italian garden. It has belonged to the Princes Massimo since 1574.
The love of the Massimo family for this magical place and its long history can be felt here: the mighty bulk of the fortress, the forests full of game, the NeoGothic mullioned windows contrasting with the severe stone cornicing, the little hanging flower garden on the guards' walk and the beautiful Italian garden created in 1800 as a wedding gift from a Nordic princess.
