Tuesday, May 1, 2012 the Bellegra Pro Loco (tourist board) is offering a lovely opportunity to spend a day outdoors in the greenery of this town known as the “City of Panoramic Views”, located at an altitude of 815 meters between the Sacco Valley and the Aniene Valley.
The events for this holiday will take place in the Cona area where the European geological heritage site “LE GROTTE DELL’ARCO” is located. These caverns are a natural treasure nestled in an unspoiled setting, just 3 km from the town center of Bellegra.
The guided tour of the caverns is truly impressive given the wealth of stalactites and stalagmites, swallow holes and chambers for observing cavern fauna, especially bats and amphibians. This Bellegra “treasure” consists of a tunnel whose first 350 meters can be visited easily along an ample walkway.
The Grotte dell’Arco opens at 9 am and can be visited throughout the day, with groups of 20 allowed in at a time. Admission with guided tour is €5 for adults and €3 for children. There is a discount for those who eat lunch at the food stands set up in the area.
In fact, on May 1, you can also eat lunch on the lawn near the Grotte dell’Arco with a large eating area with picnic tables and fixed €12 menu which includes a pasta course, main course of grilled meat, French fries, a glass of wine or 1/2 liter of water. There will also be a children’s menu with a cutlet, French fries and soft drink for €7. Lunch will be served from 12:30 pm through the afternoon.
Throughout the day, there will be a play area for children with activities.
