Mountain Festival in Carpineto Romano

On August 4 and 5, it’s off to Carpineto for the Festa della Montagna mountain festival, an enchantingly-beautiful setting thanks to the panorama and natural/scientific interest with the Karst plateau of the Pian delle Faggeta, at the foot of Mount Semprevisa (alt. 1536 m.).
 
 
Designated a Site of Community Interest (SCI) by the EC, the Mount Semprevisa-Pian delle Faggeta SCI has beech, silver birch, oak and chestnut woodlands and flora and fauna including badgers (taxus baccata) and holly (ilex aduifolium), as well as spectacular wild flowering orchids. Near the watering holes, springs and wells live a number of amphibians of special scientific interest, such as the Spectacles Salamander and tiny amphibians like the triturus carnifex and bombina variegata.
 
The Pianoro plateau is home to many animals in a wild or semi-wild state: horses (Pony d'Esperia), cattle (mucca maremmana), pigs, sheep and goats. In this enchanting area of the Lepini Mountains, just kilometers away from Rome, Latina and Frosinone and known for its "rugged and wild" beauty, the Gruppo Ippico Capreo – responsible for the equestrian aspects of the Pallio della Carriera (traditional festival with horse race and events in Carpineto) – brings to life each year in the annual Mountain Festival the age-old customs of a woodland herding civilization with the traditional dishes that have characterized it for centuries. 11 am - Conference: il patrimonio ambientale-culturale di Carpineto Romano (Carpineto-Romano’s cultural-environmental heritage)
 
12:30 pm – Opening of food stands offering traditional local dishes: beans, grilled sausage, prosciutto ham, “panzanelle” pasta with tomato, anchovy and mountain peppergrass
 
3 pm – Demonstration of the Il Corvo archery group from Carpineto Romano
 
3:30 pm – Farrier demonstration
 
4 pm – Horse show
 
Starting at 4:30 pm – events and games for children with inflatable toys and clowns
 
5:30 pm – LEPINO TRIATHLON organized by the ASD GIOCOSPORT association
 
6 pm – Traditional games, including the “Albero della Cuccagna” greased pole, tug-of-war, sack race and "scoccio delle Pignate" (a type of piñata)
