Museum of Farm Life "Casolare 311" - Formello

Browse fullscreen [x]

The Museum is housed in a house built by the Ente Maremma in the 1950s and assigned to a farmworker of Formello, Armando Finocchi (1898 – 1960).
It holds farming equipment including both manual tools and those for use with animals, and organizes guided tours and events which focus on the rural and popular lifestyles of the past to ensure that this heritage is safeguarded.  Agriculture and farming traditions have played an essential role in modelling the countryside and in the formation of local traditions.
In the society of today which is so different from the past, agriculture is still the most complex and efficient system for protection of the environment while many of the values inherent in traditional culture are being revalued with great interest.
The Museum has organized the annual showcase ‘Around the Roman Countryside’ since 2005, thanks to contributions from the Municipality of Formello and the Park of Veio (the museum acts as an information point for the park) which offers free entrance to all.
Another particularly picaresque event is ‘The Night of St. John’ which takes place on 23 June.
Services:
Guided tours for schools (book at the Veio Park toll free number 800.72.78.22) of the farm and kitchen garden.
