Our Lady of Graces

The 281st edition of the Procession of Our Lady of Graces will be held on May 14, 2011 in Artena. The events starts at around 18.30 at the Church of St. Mary (where the holy statue of Mary is kept all year round in a special niche). The celebrations actually start on the evening of Friday May 13, when the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Graces will place the holy statue in the centre of the Church for the faithful to see. On the Saturday morning, the statue will be dressed in golden lace, ready to paraded through the town’s streets before returned to the Santa Croce church in the late evening, where it will be put on display for a whole week.
Particularly characteristic are the 8 crucifixes made out of flowers, carried in the procession by the members of the participating congregations.
On the following Sunday, May 22, the statue of Our Lady of Graces will be carried back to St. Mary’s Church.
