The Neo-Gothic church of St. Blaise Bishop and Martyr in Vivaro Romano houses a recently restored 12th century, Oriental fresco of the Most Holy Illuminated Mary in a wooden shrine. Three beautiful tryptychs stand at the end of the central nave and two side aisles.
The present parish church was built on the site of a previous church fallen into disrepair and too small for the thousand plus inhabitants of the town at the time. It was consecrated on 5 August 1910, feast day of Holy Mary Illuminata. It was a gift from Cardinal Angelo di Pietro of Vivaro Romano who entrusted the building and decoration of the new church to the best artists of the time, Costantino Sneider, the architect of holy apostolic palaces, and the painters Silvio Galimberti and Eugenio Cisterna.
The building has a central chamber with two side chambers, set back and lower than the façade, which correspond to the naves of the temple, each with its own front entrance. The interior is reminiscent of the Siennese Pisano style, originally decorated with wide black and white stripes.
