Savelli Palace - Albano Laziale

Browse fullscreen [x]

Built as a fortress on the Via Appia Road in medieval times, the Savelli Palace in Albano Laziale expanded to cover a vast area over the centuries, encompassing the ruins of Porta Pretoria and the Church of San Pietro Apostolo.
Part of the Palace was knocked down when the Via Appia was widened, between 1789 and 1791 and in 1854.
In 1870, after the Lazio region was annexed into the Kingdom of Italy, the building was turned into the headquarters for the Albano municipal authority.
