Spring Festival and the “Palio degli Anelli”

 
Once again it’s time for the Spring Festival in Montelibretti – one of the most characteristic events in the Sabine area around Rome.
 
Again this year for the 29th festival, Montelibretti will be transformed by the tireless residents of its “contrade” (districts) into a Renaissance town with decorations and re-enactments of daily life from that period.
 
There will be a number of competitions, from the best decorations to the “Palio degli Anelli” tournament. Be sure not to miss the taverns and food stands where you can sample traditional foods of the area, as well as the many events that will be hosted in the town from June 12 to 17.
 
Program:
Tuesday, June 12, 9 pm – Parco della Resistenza: theatrical performance
Wednesday, June 13, 9 pm – Parco della Resistenza
Friday, June 15, 9 pm – Parco della Resistenza: relay race between contradas
Sunday, June 17 – Parco della Resistenza:
10 am – festival begins with the flag wavers of Castel Madama;
1-3 pm – lunch at the taverns set up by the contradas
3-5 pm – procession in costume
7 pm – Palio degli Anelli
 
Festival closing with awards ceremony for the contradas
