In July 2006, Met. Ro. S.p.A. granted free use of the entire complex of the Colonna Station, including the waiting rooms, storage areas, the square outside the station and about 500 metres of the last remaining lines of track, to ACIMET (Italian Cultural Association for the European Transport Museum).
Since then, complex and costly renovation and recuperation work has been carried out on the buildings and external area, the square has been enlarged and the historic trains have been gradually transferred and restored.
In January 2008, the Foundation for The Station – Museum of Colonna, Roma – Fiuggi Line was established to allow for the creation and management of the museum area.
The waiting room was adapted to exhibit the collection of objects and tools used in railway life, photographs of station life and documents relating to the Station.
