One of the most important “cardinal” villas, now known as Villa Adele (1615), Villa Albani (1735) and Villa Sarsina (1735-40).
The panoramic position adds to the building’s charm, which is nevertheless easily appreciated. The design of the villa has been attributed to Ferdinando Fuga, one of the greatest architects of the 18th C.. Many of the building’s distinctive features are typical of his style, such as the decorative use of external staircases, while the interior is especially admired for the grand festival hall, which takes up two floors of the building and has a musician’s gallery overlooking it.
Over the course of time, the villa has had a number of different owners, until in 1874 it was purchased by Pietro Aldobrandini, Prince of Sarsina, who undertook important restoration work.
The interior however was devastated during the years immediately after the First World War, but also owing to the neglect it suffered over the decades that followed.
