First opened in 1999, the Museum is located in three rooms in the town’s historic centre which up to a few years ago were used to process grapes, a product that is closely linked to the land’s culture and economy.
On show here are a number of tools, machines and instruments arranged in various sections (archaeological, iconographic and documentary) all displayed in the very sequence in which they were used during the processing, from the vineyard plant distribution and training right through to the harvest, the pressing and finally the bottling.
The items on show, mostly donated or lent by private sponsors, are further integrated by information panels, large size photos and mementos of a material culture that is gradually dying out.
The exhibition space includes a tasting corner, for the promotion of local wines and one can also go on an underground tour of the historic cellars excavated in the lapillus rockbed, where modern art works and forms inspired by the wine world and culture are to be put on show.
