Zagarolo celebrates San Lorenzo

Everything is ready for the celebrations in honour of St. Lawrence the Martyr, Patron Saint of the Town of Zagarolo. Sponsored by the Regional Authorities of Lazio and the Provincial Authorities of Rome, they are organised by the “Venerabile Arciconfraternita del SS. Salvatore and San Lorenzo Martire” (the Venerable Confraternity of Saints Salvatore and Lorenzo the Martyr), the municipality and the tourist board of Zagarolo, together with other local associations.
 
The programme is crammed with both lay and religious initiatives which will involve the entire village in five days of great festivities, running from Wednesday 8 until Sunday 12 August.
 
Things immediately get underway on Wednesday, August 8 with the historical procession featuring flag flyers and the traditional “Contesa della Macchina di San Lorenzo” (Competition for the Float of San Lorenzo), not to mention the award for the teams taking part.
 
 
Music will also be taking centre stage in the festivities, with performances by Ligabue tribute band “Rane a Rubiera” in Piazza Guglielmo Marconi, not to mention music and entertainment performances with California Rock e Blues and covers of hits from the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s, along with Caribbean dancing and karaoke. The dialect theatre company will be performing “L'osteria della Speranza” by Alessandro D'Ambrosi, and there will also be tombola draws with prizes totalling €2,500.00 in value and an unmissable firework display. To mark the occasion, the Zagarolo tourist board is organising “Calici sotto le stelle” (Wine glasses beneath the stars) in Piazza Tre Cannelle.
During all the celebrations, it will be possible to try out all the local gastronomic specialities. There will be no shortage of watermelon stands along the village streets, and games for little ones.
 
 
 
The procession through the village streets will take place on Thursday, August 9 at 8 pm after the Holy Mass has been held inside the church. On Friday, August 10 at 11 am, at the church of San Lorenzo Martire, a solemn service will be held to celebrate the Patron Saint.
