Although not born there, the sculptor Jacues Zwobada, born in France in 1900 of Czech origins, can at least ideally be seen as having been adopted by the town of Mentana.
Mentana probably preserves what is perhaps not his most famous work, but undoubtedly the work he most cherished: when in 1956, his wife Antonia Fiermonte died prematurely at the age of 42, he decided to design the mausoleum for her. A mausoleum that the artist decided to built in the Mentana cemetery.
The Mausoleum dedicated to Antonio was conceived over a very long space of time: still not completed at the time of Zwobada’s death in 1967, its final completion only took place in 1996, forty years after Antonia’s death, mainly thanks to the efforts of Anna Filiali, the natural daughter of Antonia Fiermonte, who also donated many of the statues included in the work.
